The Best Nest

How often do find yourself feeling bored and stuck with your “stuff”? You want change but don’t know where to start. So you either do nothing or try anything. This approach reminds me of a children’s book written by P.D. Eastman, “The Best Nest”...

In the story Mrs. Bird decides she hates their old house and informs Mr. Bird they need to find a new one ASAP. So off they fly only to find their first three choices occupied.

Mrs. Bird then decides the perfect location is inside a church steeple.—it’s big and beautiful and nobody lives there. The birds gather “stuff” to build their new nest, in the perfect spot, on top of the big bell. Soon Mrs. Bird announces she wants to live there forever. That is until the church bell rings at noon!

Mr. Bird returns to find a big mess and no Mrs. Bird. He flies off in a panic to search for her. Eventually bumping into their old house, he goes inside and finds Mrs. Bird singing, “I love my house. I love my nest. In all the world this nest is best”. “You, here!” he gasps, “I thought you hated this old house”! She explains she used to hate it, but there’s no nest like an old nest.
